 | | | Vasabjit Banerjee, a student in the United States, feels that there are large gaps in US perceptions about a lot of things in India and similar is the case with Indians about a lot of things Western. One of the problems in India, according to him, is the poor quality of the academia in India. Academics serve a critical function in informing society about issues both domestic and foreign. If the academic institutions are weak then perception gaps are bound to be wide. A lot of focus therefore needs to given at the academic level and there should be programmes to improve their systems and standards. Our Comments: That view would be disputed by Indian academics! But anything that strengthens institutions are to be welcomed. |
